In excellent conditions Phil was supported with a great turnout from Wallsend – both runners and spectators (one of which had a rather fabulous bell!)..more of that later....
Well done to all the men and it was great to see some of our old favourites out on the hills today...yes you know who you are....Mr Peter Joyce, Mr Alex Richardson, Mr Jimmy Flynn and the Godfather himself Mr Terry O’Gara (by the way Terry that sprint finish you put in at the end there did not look like a bloke having an easy run round to me!)
With 6 of the team heading off in the slow pack – Chrystal, Laura, Sarah, Kathryn, Becki and Claire and Website Wally back from her hols (ahh how she has missed all the lovely Wallsend Harriers) starting in the medium pack after serving her time with the whippets that populate the fast pack there was a good race in store with possibly the loudest support from the troops on the sidelines.
First home for the girls was Becki who was closely followed by Chrystal and then Laura. A solid performance for the first cross country of the season. Special mention must go to Bev who had an excellent run – now this run possibly could have been better had she not realised that end of the first lap she had another lap to run. That is usually the case in a two lap race.....mental note for next time Bev – remember NOT to sprint finish at the end of your first lap towards the finishing tape.
