It was another big turnout for the green and gold at last night's Morpeth 10k as we had 35 runners involved in the race, which also incorporated the North Eastern 10k Championships.
Caroline leads the way
Tonight's Morpeth 10k is also the 6th race of our Summer Road Race Grand Prix and it's getting very tight at the top with a number of runners still able to take the title.
Caroline Hasson tops the league table with a 3 point lead over Tony Maddocks and Mick Skeldon with Claire Carmichael a further 2 points behind. With the 9 out of the top 10 in the table running tonight everyone with have to be at their best to attempt to get as many points as possible.
Martin in action
With the Olympics now in full flow, it is easy to forget that Wallsend & Blyth host this Sunday's Track & Field meeting at Churchill Playing Fields, managed by our own Martin Telford (Pictured left). It is also a very opportune time for us to have received the following message of thanks to Martin from Dave Swallwell, one of our friends at Blyth Running Club.

In the final round up of the day congrats goes to the lovely Brian Hetherington who came 11th in the Alnwick Harriers coastal run today in a time of 1.26.02 (provisional results). The run also saw the appearance of the jovial jogging journo - Paul James! Well done fellas rounding off a great weekend of running for Wallsend Harriers across the wonderful North East of England.
Well done to all the Wallsend athletes who took part in the Great North 10k today however the run of the day has to go to our own superstar Yared Hagos! On a hard, hilly course Yared broke the 30 minute barrier to finish in 2nd place behind GB Olympian Scott Overall. Truly brilliant Yared - an olympic effort in our eyes!! Congrats to the other harriers - Neil Banks, John Dodds, the ever improving Gary Lewis, Mick Bell and his wife Judith! Go go green and gold!
A small yet hardy bunch of golden oldies (and the young Captain courageous - Michael Skeldon!) headed down the A19 today to take part in the Victorian 10k hosted by New Marske harriers. On a busy racing weekend this was one of many races taking place and it was also the vanee 10k road race championship! Last year at Bamburgh the ladies team stormed to victory taking gold in the championships.....and thanks to the organisational capabilities of the great Kath Robertson we headed back to New Marske to defend the gold! And defend it we did!!! For the second year in a row the golden oldies took the gold in the team prize with Chrys taking the silver in w40, Emma taking the silver in w35 and Kath the bronze in w35! Brilliant! Just out of the prizes but coming a fantastic 21st in the race and 4th m40 with a seasons best well under 39 minutes was the fab Michael Skeldon! First prize for awesome supporter also went to Ruth Marshall! Go Wallsend!!!
Danielle Hodgkinson stole the show at last night's Sunderland 5k, adding the North Eastern 5k title to her long list of achievements.
It was also the 5th race in our Summer Road Race Grand Prix competition and with 4 runners gaining maximum points the overall lead changes hands yet again.
