Double D’s Week-end Round-up
Despite the truly awful weather conditions over the weekend, the club was heavily represented in both Alnwick Harrier’s annual Coastal Run (Beadnell to Alnmouth) and the Bupa Great North 10K Run (Sunderland).
And although there were some great performances by several of the club members, one performance in particular stands out from the rest.
Take a bow club captain, Vicky Hindson.
In horrible, horrible conditions (and I should know having been battered by headwind’s for the entire 13 miles route), Vicky excelled above the rest of the women’s category by romping home to victory in a time of 1h 37m 02s (50th position overall).
A magnificent feat in one of the North-East’s most prestigious races.
Leading the way for the men was powerhouse athlete Mark Hall, who finished 8th overall with a time of 1h 28m 08. But on a day more suited to kite-flying, as opposed to running, a special mention must go to all the members who endured the appalling conditions and still managed to finish the race with a smile on their face.

A little closer to home was the second running of the Bupa Great North 10K run. By all accounts the winds weren’t as strong as those sweeping across the Northumberland Coastline (have I mentioned how tough it was up there) but were still gusty enough to have an effect on runner’s performances. First for the club was Kenny MacPherson, finishing 34th overall in a time of 37m 16s, with Sarah Cawthorn and Michael Stringfellow finishing just a little later. Well done guys.

And finally, Newcastle Parkrun. Thanks to all the members who turned up bright and early on Saturday to support this great little 5K run. Luckily, conditions were ideal for running, with only fairly light winds in the morning.
