A Record Night !
Women athletes Danielle Hodgkinson and Emma Walton set new course records for the Wallsend Harriers Summer Grand Prix in the fifth race of the 2010 series on Tuesday 13th July.
Serving soldier Danielle - in a rare Grand Prix appearance - scorched around the 2-mile course in 11.02, a time beaten only by two male runners on the night and slicing more than one minute off the previous record held by Vicky Hindson.
Emma Walton was equally impressive in setting a new Veteran Womens course record - her 12.50 was more than twenty seconds faster than Chrystal Skeldon's previous record.
Although these were the two outstanding performances of the evening, the race itself was won by newcomer Kenny Chambers, with Emily James - another debutant - coming home in second place as both runners took advantage of the handicapper's unfamiliarity with their abilities.
There was another excellent turnout from young Wallsend athletes - with four of the youth section more than holding their own among adult competition - under-15 runner Keiran Drape recorded the fifth fastest time on the night.
In the race for the overall title, it is another young athlete, under-13 Adam Hill, who leads the table as the 'best-four' rule kicks into place. He is folowed closely by Keiran Drape and Kevin Payne with two races to go in the seven-race series.
