Top of the League !!
A marvellous match win at Hexham on Sunday 4th July moved the combined Wallsend / Blyth team to the top of Division 4E in the NoE Track & Field League.
With only one fixture remaining - at Jarrow on 31st July - promotion from the division looks a near-certain possibility and is a fitting reward for the fantastic support shown by members of both clubs.
On a day of mixed weather, with alternating rain, strong winds and bright warm sunshine. the two clubs once again mustered support across almost all disciplines.

An exultant Martin Telford - team manager - post the following brief message:
I have never in all my years seen so many people encroaching the track to shout on one of their fellow competitors in a race. There must have been thirty of us and to cap it off, we had Eric Smart in lane 3 talking a photograph of Danielle Hodgekinson when she was only 20 metres away from him. I don`t know how we got away with it!
Danielle showed great strength maintaining a metre gap between her and the Scarborough runner. For me that moment was the realisation of how much this team wanted to win.
Inspired by a superb victory in the mens 4 x 100 by Craig Birch,Calvin Hirst, Scott Povey and Eric Smart, who for the first time in 2 years beat the always very strong quartet of Tynedale, the womens 4x 400 team trailing for most of the race clawed their way through to victory.
Other wins on the day, twelve in all, began with a double in the 400mH, young Craig Birch, who incidently did the double with a win in the 110mH, was followed by the long awaited return to competition of Phil Jones. Superb execution performed by Dave Moir in the 3000 steeple chase gave inspiration as he romped to victory. Other mens `B` race wins came from Dan Weatherill in the 1500 and Calvin Hirst in the 200. Finally for the men the 5000 m after leading for most of the way Tony Carter secured a win in the `B` string whilst Andrew (Ash) Henderson raced to victory in the `A`.
The women dominated the 1500 with wins from Danielle Hodgekinson and Stacey Robinson. Laura Murphy came away with a joint 1st place in the high jump.
A string of 2nd placed performances by Craig Birch 100 `B` Scott Povey 400 `A` our own Simon Gibbs in the 800 `A` Kenny Mc Pherson 1500 `A` . Finally for the men Ian Baxter 2nd in the `B` steeple.
Emma Walton not only performed a monumental relay leg but secured 2nd place in the `A` string hammer with a new p.b. Sharon Richardson 2nd in the `B` hammer, Rebbeca Nail 2nd in the Long jump `A` and high jump `B` and finally for the women recent addictee Julie Hind claiming 2nd place in the Discus `B`.
Lets not forget all of our team competitors on the day who all played their part in securing the match win, when the margin of victory is so close its obvious we can do without no one. On that note I can only thank all for their efforts and thanks also to the many supporters who helped make it a day to remember.
