Durham Relays...What a team! 22/01/2012
Well done to all the Wallsend Harriers who took part in the Durham Cathedral Relays today in what were testing conditions to say the least. 60 miles south in York there were some further awesome performances in a half marathon race that was taking place but we will save that for a separate report soon to follow! Today however as the Wallsend troops were divided between Durham and York they were still out in force giving their all in the green and gold. Recently someone asked what makes Wallsend Harriers a great club...well today what made Wallsend Harriers a great club was evident in Durham (and I am 100% sure in York as well!)....... ![]() Graham minus morph suit! We had strong team spirit and camaraderie on show with Graham Armstrong and Kenny Chambers running twice both in the veteran race and the senior mens race to support their fellow team competitor John Sturman. We had people taking part in their first race wearing the green and gold who loved every minute of it (you know you did Emma B!) and will be back for more. ![]() RBLK We had the Wallsend ‘Elites’ (you are elites in our eyes anyway :-)) of Dan Weatherill (AKA ‘Daddy’), Kerna the Burna, Chris Smith, Jordan Milddelmist, Brian Hetherington and Paddy Dinsmore strutting their stuff on the 1.8 mile course providing entertainment aplenty. We had the ladies of Wallsend looking their finest (well except Emma W and Julie – we need to work on our presentation Hindy!) in their beautiful matching pink spikes (if only we had a photo!)...honestly were they on special offer Katie, Amy and Emma B? We had brilliant performances from the ever improving Dave Collinson, Tony ‘Madmax’ Maddocks, Mick Bell, Neil Banks and Bev Gosling – the guys are getting better week by week! We had the great performances (as ever) from the ever dependant Chrystal Skeldon and Kath Robertson and finally we had the love, friendship and support of the ever trusty supporters...Bill ‘so lovely’ Todd, Sue, Jack and Minnie Armstrong, Kirsty Sturman and Kate Weatherill. Think I have captured everyone there! Sometimes it is just about being there that counts and being surrounded by a great bunch of genuine, kind and caring people. Well done to all the runners, supporters and friends of Wallsend Harriers today in Durham and York. Full results to follow (no idea at the moment how any of our teams got on!!) A great report on half of a great day Emma! Such commitment, support and camaraderie amongst the old (especially Graham and Kenny in supporting John. But also John returning the same in supporting them for running twice so we closed another team time) and new members. An absolute pleasure to be part of!
