Brass Monkey Brilliance! 22/01/2012
What a team it was that was posted to York today for the Brass Monkey Half Marathon. It was going to take some strong characters to cope - nay - excel - in the Yorkshire wind...but by jove have we got some of those in Wallsend Harriers! Six PBs, race winner and 2nd and 3rd ladies good enough for ya??? The awesome foursome pictured above showed the way - Ruth posting a 1:50:10, Sarah a 4 minute PB of 1:52:02 (just for you Kev!), Mr Armstrong a 1:38 dead 8 MINUTE PB and Mrs Armstrong a 2:04:41 7 MINUTE PB. Brilliant! In other news, Merlay Hall Magician Yared Hagos came out to play today and what a performance it was to win in 66:42 by a clear 4 minutes 30. Feeding dust to those around her was Captain, my Captain, Viicky Hindson who gets better with every single race and 2nd lady today (noone was catching the winner) with an absolutely phenomenal performance and a PB of 1:22:53. The third lady in today's race was rocket-powered and it was our own Stacey Rogers who dug very deep to finish in 1:26. There were PBs also for the boys James - 1:21:33 - and Morgan - 1:24:36 (first PB in 16 years!) with vestless Scott Boyd not far behind the former North East champ with a 1:25:11. MIck Stringfellow completed the team with a 2:10:07 - a minute faster than last year. I say completed - we were nothing today with the support of the gents Gibbs, Brown and Borsberry - and all those who should have been there today who we carried in our hearts for every step of those 13.1 miles.
