There is never a dull moment in the life of a Wallsend Harrier and yesterday proved to be the case again. The bells were out, the cakes were baked, the vests were washed, the bobble hats were trending and the runners and riders were ready to go go go! And on a hard course every single runner did their very best and we were very proud of every last one.

Unfortunately due to the rules of the North Eastern cross country the mens team were missing Yared from the starting line up so instead of running with the team he watched from the sidelines however all the men put in fantastic performance and secured 6th position in a hotly contested race which was won overall  by Ricky Stevenson. Well done to all the men – it was tough conditions and having to race 3 laps of this course was hard going. Full mens results click here.

In the women’s race the ladies (having to rely on a rather unfit Website Wally!) managed to finish in 4th position overall. As with the men it was a great performance from every single Wallsend women wearing the green and gold. For full ladies results click here.

A special mention must go to Blyth Running Club who worked hard to ensure the course was well laid out and marshalled brilliantly. The support from the marshalls around the course was fantastic and it certainly made the run (slightly) easier!

Another mention must also go to Kathryn Robertson who in her first North Eastern XC Championships as secretary did a sterling job under the watchful eye of Donna Horne. Well done Kathryn you did us proud!

Now following the race this is where the fun began and this is what we love about Wallsend Harriers. The cakes. I have never seen so many cakes produced in all my life...so many there was a suggestion that we should be renamed the Wallsend Institute in honour of the Womens Institute who quite frankly we would have put to shame yesterday. So to you all you made crispy cakes (mars bar and Cadburys chocolate), brownies, ginger cake, banana cake(s), carrot cake, tiffin, bacon sandwiches (I know it is not a cake but hey it was still food!).......THANK YOU!

Wallsend Harriers....we love eating cake.....which sometimes is interrupted by a little run!

Well done all!

P.S Some of you may not know but Lee ‘Rubber Burna’ Kerna’s  cousin is in the group ‘Little Mix’ on the X Factor. He hasn’t really mentioned it much (he is shy like that) but if you read this in time and you get a chance...make his day and VOTE LITTLE MIX!

Well done everyone. What a great day out. Thanks to everyone for the encouragement around the course. The distant sound of the bells as i was running/plodging through the mud was a real help. Thanks for all the the cakes and the bacon sandwich. I must have put a few pound on as i sampled the lot.
