So this week see the return to Farringdon – just a few weeks ago we were there for the men's relays and to let our girls ‘do their thang’ solo style.
So the gen you need to know …
The HQ/ loos and stuff are at Farringdon Community Sports College and the tents in the field opposite.
To get there from the A19 southbound, take the turn for Doxford International Business Park, straight over 2 roundabouts and first left at the next and you’ll see the cars parked next to the field on your left
To get there from the A1 southbound, come off for the Washington Highway and keep going straight over all the roundabouts until you get to Herrington then take the roundabout for the B1286, straight over the next roundabout and you’re on Silksworth Road where the cars will be parked up ahead.
Alternatively use postcode SR3 3EL (this is the school) for directions
What time to arrive?
Usual timings apply, approx.. of course:
12.15 Combined Boys & Girls under 11
12.30 Boys under 13
12.35 Girls under 13
12.50 Boys under 15
12.55 Girls under 15
13.15 Senior Men
14.00 Junior men under 17
14.30 Senior Women & Under 17/20 Women
Plenty of decent facilities and results available in the school which is a 5min walk from the main race site.
What’s it like for spectating and bell ringing?
Not much to see at the start/end but pick yourself a good spot on top of one of the hills mid-course and you’ll see/create much more of the action (including someone barff when they reached to top of the first big hill which I was witness too last year – lovely!), you can also cut across the course when they guys n gals head out for the hills.
What’s the course/ route?
Flat for the first 400m or so then a long incline out with 2 stream crossings (if they haven’t filled them in like Temple Park) a pretty tough hill just before the finish but then a nice downhill into the finish of approx. 300m.
3 laps for the blokes, 2 for the women (we think?!), usual stuff 6ish mile for men, 4ish for women.
Here's the map/profile from the relays to give an idea of the laps.
Well it’s Farringdon, so it has to be ‘Fruity Flapjacks’, nice simple recipe to coat your arteries from Jamie Oliver here: http://www.jamieshomecookingskills.com/recipe.php?title=fruity-flapjacks
Good luck guys – may the bells be with you!!!
