Steve Cunningham sneaked under the radar to win the last in the Winter GP series last night. Steve’s excellent run of 27:06 (22:06 actual) was one of 9 PB’s on a very stormy night and was almost a full minute quicker than his expected time. Well done Steve!

Storming Steve! He can run with his eyes shut!
8 out of the first 10 finishers all ran either PB’s or certainly season’s bests, which is what this competition is all about. 7 runners were competing for the 1st time this winter over the 3M+ course including new-to-the-club Andy Nichol and Andy Graham who both had impressive runs. Welcome lads and well done too!

Come on Claire!
As the wind picked up 32 runners took to the line to take part in race 6 of the winter grand prix series and the night was made more special with the unexpected but rather brilliant arrival of the awesome Terry O’Gara, being exquisitely chauffeured by Super SOG and accompanied by the lovely Kerry and Bridie Cottiss.  The arrival of Wallsend Harriers' latest England superstar  obviously helped to boost the performance of the Wallsend wonder kids tonight as yet again a plethora of PBs were had not least by the winner of the race Claire Carmichael.

The dates for the final 3 races in the Winter Grand Prix series have now been released and so get them firmly in your diary as there is still a lot to play for....it ain't over till the slim running lady (or man!) sings!!

Race 6 - Tuesday 10th Jan
Race 7 - Tuesday 31st Jan
Race 8 - Tuesday 21st Feb

All races off at 6.45pm from the car park opposite the village hotel.

2012 started with a bang as a huge crowd of friends old, new and Morph-suited gathered at Centurion Park to witness new male and female course records for the 5M New Year's Day Grand Prix.

Bringing home the fresh-faced pack was the familiar smiling face of a resurgent Kenny Chambers, followed by Mick Bell, James Torbett, Neil Banks, Kevin Payne and Lee Morgan.
But the headlines were grabbed by the two record-breakers.

Don't forget this Sunday is the Winter Grand Prix - New Years Day Handicap Race. This is a 5 mile race (with obligatory handover for some!) starting from the Wallsend Golf Club (Rheydt Avenue, Wallsend)

Race starts at 11am (Santa Claus outfits/Morph Suits may be worn!!) - see you all then!

Two of our most in-form athletes led the field home in a Winter Grand Prix last night as chilly as it was exciting.

Neil Banks won the race and is this year’s Doug Bramley Cup winner, with Tony Maddocks runner up – both looking like half the men they used to be and both totally trouncing the handicapper!

A brilliant night had by all on Tuesday so get ready for the 3rd race in the Winter Grand Prix series - The Doug Bramley Cup. This is a new date for your diary - Tuesday 6th December 2011.
The 3rd in our series will be a handicap race over our usual course however the winner of the outright race is awarded the Doug Bramley Cup.
Doug was a former Club Chairman and President and a larger than life character who was always there to offer advice and encouragement during the 80's and 90's. Let's do Doug proud and have another fun packed night! See you on the start line!

A record 45 runners turned out for the second Winter Grand Prix, but how could they possibly follow the 14 PBs and five course records set in the first race?

Another 15 PBs enough for you? No? How about 12 first timers? No? How about Brian Hetherington equalling the vets’ course record? What do you mean no???

Ok ok ok. How about the three fastest times EVER recorded on the course? Though that might perk you up!

As announced in the clerb on Friday, the BBC cameras are coming to the Wallsend Harriers Winter Grand Prix on Tuesday to see what all the fuss is about some Chairman gadgie who's been called up for England.

So, simple one this - everyone get your Wallsend vest on and get yourself to the car park opposite the Village Hotel at Cobalt Business Park for a 6.45pm race start (or go to the club as usual time to jog to the start at 6.30pm).
