Hoorah for Harry!
The gentlemen of Wallsend Harriers were in action this weekend with victories on Saturday and Sunday in the bag in testing conditions on both days!
Well done to the lovely Harry Coates who took victory in the Durham Duathlon. This 5k run, 25k bike ride then another 5k run was over undulating ground with a testing climb during the bike section. This coupled with a little bit of rain (understatement of the year!) made this a great victory for Harry...we've not said it in a while but Hoorah for Harry!

Brilliant Bri!
24 hours earlier in Gateshead the simply BRILLIANT Brian Hetherington took victory in the Gateshead Parkrun. Now this is a man going from strength to strength. Following a stunning run on Tuesday in the first of the SGP series (where Brill Bri set a new vets course record) Brian took victory in a time of 17.03. On a ridiculously hilly course not only did Brian take the victory but he ran the 2nd fastest time ever for the course. Well done Brian...you really are brilliant!!
After fantastic feedback following Terry's race last weekend (we look forward to seeing you all next year!) - this Wednesday at 7.30pm is the memorial race for Terry's very close friend, Gordon Smith. This popular relay event is held over the similar course around the cycle tracks of Segedunum. For further details of the event please click

Registration - from 6.15pm - and the presentation of prizes will take place at St Columba's Church Hall, Wallsend (approx 0.5 miles from the start of the run)...plus the usual spread of food for all runners after the run!
See you all there for a great night of running!

Norma and Terry O'Gara
It is our sad duty to inform you that after a long battle with illness Norma O'Gara passed away peacefully on Friday morning, fittingly she was surrounded by her close family.
Norma had shown unbelievable courage and strength over the last week of her life, defying the odds when the consultants told the family on Tuesday that Norma had only a few hours to live. But that was Norma – a strong, brave and gutsy lady.
This beautiful woman had truly been the wind beneath Terry’s wings and the driving force behind her children Paul, Steve and Kerry.
Norma’s funeral will be held at 10am on Thursday 19th April at St Columbas Church, Wallsend and 11.15am at St Peters Cemetery then back to the Lindisfarne.
The family have asked us to let you know that you are all more than welcome to attend.
On behalf of Wallsend Harriers we would like to extend our deepest sympathy to Paul, Steve, Kerry and their families at this time. You are all in our thoughts and we send our love.

Well what a fantastic weekend for 3 of our top class athletes in the female , senior men and vet men categories..
Starting with the female category....huge congratulations to the lovely Danielle Hodgkinson who represented the North East in the Inter Counties Cross Country Championship at Cofton Park, Birmingham on Saturday. Danielle came 38th in the race overall and with the rest of her team mates (Rosie Smith, Jane Hodgson, Alex Snook and Claire Simpson) finished 7th team place overall. Well done ladies!
Also in action on Saturday was brilliant Brian Hetherington taking part in the Newcastle Park Run. Despite a noticeable headwind Brian finished in a PB of 17.00 and took the age grading title in the VM44-99 with a credible 84.71%. There is no stopping you Brian!
And finally...oh yes...he has done it again! Today Yared won the Inverness half Marathon in very windy and very cold conditions. Running sub 5 minute miles Yared was victorious in a time of 65.00!
Well done Hagos!
