Hello gang! (it is panto season) Hoping you all had a great Christmas and wishing you all health and happiness for the coming year 2012. Note from Ed: All these dates with maps to the venues have been updated in the Club Dates and race Calendar. With all the events being local let us really get behind the Track & Field Season this year to support Martin and the full team. It is great fun and can be a great part of your training programme. Go on - give it a go!
Don't forget this Sunday is the Winter Grand Prix - New Years Day Handicap Race. This is a 5 mile race (with obligatory handover for some!) starting from the Wallsend Golf Club (Rheydt Avenue, Wallsend)
Race starts at 11am (Santa Claus outfits/Morph Suits may be worn!!) - see you all then!

After an impeccable Farah-esque diet/hydration strategy over Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day chez James, the Green and Gold big tum tour bus hit the Wheaton Aston Roman 10k in Staffordshire on Tuesday.
In fantastic weather conditions on a really flat course over country lanes, one was a most Jovial Jogging Journo with a 36:42 finish, a 1:15 PB, and finishing 17th out of a field of 478. Joyeux Noel indeed!
So your calorie count tops 15,000 on Christmas Day, the head's a little fuzzy, the in-laws are on their way - well the Pudding Run's here to save your Boxing Day!
The 3.5 miler starts at 10.30am and starts and finishes at the War Memorial opposite the Spanish City in Whitley Bay.
Entries will be taken on the day at £6 for adults and £3 for under-16s. Finishers receive a Christmas Pudding and a certificate. Race registration starts at 9am and if it's too icy the run will take place on the beach.
You can keep your BBC Sports Personality – the results are in for the poll that really matters!
Life’s big questions have finally been answered, and we can now reveal our favourite race of 2011, the top training session, and if we prefer the shorts, the vest, the Morph suit or the bobble hat…

Anyone who would still like to train with the club throughout the festive period still can. Everyone is welcome, I will give you a session we can all do. Come down to the coast and run along the sea front.
When: Tuesday 27th and Thursday 29th meet at 6.10pm leaving at 6.30pm.
Where: At the corner of Hartley Avenue, Monkseaton - the street you go along to get to the car park at the track.
The fourth Winter Grand Prix last night saw a field of 24 take a break from their pre-Christmas festivities to leg it round our 3 (and a bit) mile course.
In line with recent races, the improvement being shown by runners right across our club was there for all our hardy supporters to see.
Home in first place was newcomer Scott Boyd, whose 17:32 gave the handicapper a right festive trumping – not that we all take any pleasure in this Bill! Scott you’ll be starting at the back on one leg next time!
After the race, as Vic ‘n’ Mick circled with intent, Scott provided Skipper Skelly with an early Christmas present by announcing he’s already signed up. But that wasn’t the only headline of the night…
A big congratulations to Sally Slater who flew the Green and Gold flag at the Saltwell 10k yesterday. In her first road race representing the club, Sally's 44:42 earned her a brilliant 10th place in the historic centenary year of this prestigious race. Well done Sally!

Party Games Galore with MC O'Gara!
A fantastic night was had by all last night at the Annual Presentation Night and Christmas Party. The cups really were running over as the good times rolled! A huge thanks must go to Bill Todd our esteemed Club Secretary who put in hours of work to collate lists of runners and races over the last year, Alex Richardson (our simply brilliant treasurer) who organised all the cups/awards/trophies/raffle and finally to the MC himself Steve O'Gara (and his better half Donna) who put in yet another energetic performance hosting the evening and creating a fantastic photographic review of the year.
Particular congratulations must go to Danielle Hodgkinson who was named as Wallsend Athlete of the Year 2012 and to Kevin Payne who was named as Wallsend Club Member of the Year 2012. Finally well done and a HUGE thank you to everyone who has raced, trained, supported and been a part of Wallsend Harriers this year - Thanks to all members for coming along last night and enjoying themselves....it was great to see how much had been achieved by all runners at all levels in 2011...what will 2012 hold?! !
