First things first. From today’s run we have raised more than £4,500 (and counting) in entry fees and sponsorship for the Red Cross Japan Tsunami Appeal. If anyone saw tonight’s brilliant Tyne Tees report on the race, they’d see how much it meant to the Japanese people who took part, and how bad I still am at interviews.......
Paul James writes this excellent (and honest) report from the race today..... Please indulge me the following report on today’s Nissan Run for Japan 10k.
8 Comments Today saw an awesome turnout of Wallsend runners to take part in the Edinburgh marathon festival. In conditions that were testing to say the least – all 15 runners did us proud with 7 runners attempting the marathon for the first time and 3 runners gaining PB’s by wait for it...23 mins, 24 mins and 48 mins (yes – that is right a PB by 48 mins...we will come onto him later!) The runners were supported by a great crew of supporters who managed to tactically place themselves around the course giving the guys loud cheers and jelly babies! (‘who was the loudest spectator’ survey - coming to this website very soon!) ......
Wallsend's newest world champion, Harry Coates, placed an excellent fifth, in the "N" Scot - "Mud 'n' Mayhem" Tri- Series Challenge, held at Northampton today.
After meandering off-course in last Tuesday's Grand Prix, the engineering graduate set off in customarily determined fashion, for his 1500 metre swim. Coates' swimming discipline has never been regarded as his forte, however today's "fourth out-of-the-water" spot, is acknowledged as his best swim yet....... Julie and David would like to invite all Wallsend Harriers to celebrate the fab news of their engagement...Woo hoo...Party Time! The party will start at 7pm (and carry on till late....!) on 9th July at The Killingworth Social Club. Get the date in your diary - Julie and David are looking forward to seeing you there! Ian Turrell a very good pilates instructor who used to do classes for me at Sage runs the following classes within the local area: The classes will be starting from Monday Monday's at the Edward Eccles church hall, top of the main road in Earsdon, 7.30pm to 8.15pm, £5 per class or 5 for £20 Tuesdays at St John’s Church hall, Kingston Park, 7-8pm, £4 per class or 5 for £15 Thursdays at the Shiremoor Centre, Earsdon road, 7-8pm, £4 per class or 5 for £15 Bookings don't run consecutively so can be used any time, and each class is mixed ability. I know that some of the Harriers are interested in becoming more flexible and improving there core stability, so they may fancy giving a class ago. Kathryn Robertson also speaks highly of Ian and attends his classes. Congratulations to all who took part in the first Summer Grand Prix last night - we had a great turnout of 33 runners (plus one that went AWOL...you know who you are!) and 2 new course records were set - well done to all!
