Boyd Dips Under 3 Hours!
Picture
Lee Morgan reports on Scott Boyd's efforts in green and gold in Spain:
Birthday boy Scott Boyd, who has only been with the club a few months but has already found himself mixing it with the club's best in training, competed at the Barcelona Marathon and the weekend and dipped under his target time of 3 hours with a time of 2.58. Those who have trained with the amiable Scotsman will know how hard he has trained for this event and this time is well deserved. The scorching conditions wouldn't have  helped either but it just goes to show what happens when you prepare properly and do everything right. A sunburnt Scott found himself jumping  into the water fountain at the end of the race to cool down and although  admitting that the final 4 miles were very tough and his quads are somewhat  sore, he was happy  with his time.
We are sure that Scott wont be the only Wallsend sub 3 hour
marathon runner this year but he has set the 2012 target for the rest to chase.
Congratulations Scott from all at Wallsend

Harrier
League Prudhoe

After  a long hard season, the final race of the Harrier League series finally took
part on Saturday at Prudhoe. On a glorious day, there was good feeling all round as both our men’s and ladies teams had secured 1st Division status before Saturday's race. However, we still  had to field teams and those runners still had to conquer that dreaded hill!

Danielle Hodgkinson finished her cross country season in style as she represented the Combined Services (Army, Navy and RAF) at the Home Countries Cross Country International in Glasgow yesterday.
Running against teams from England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales,
'wor Dan' finished an amazing 16th. It was tough going after a long season for
Dan and she admitted that she found the going hard and struggled in the mud. However, it shows how far our Athlete of the Year has progressed in the last couple of years when she is disappointed to finish 16th in an International Race!
Danielle now hangs up her cross country spikes for another season and her next race will be the Fleet Half Marathon in a couple of weeks where she attempts to break her own club record.

Well done Dan

Saturday: This weekend we bid farewell to the 2011/12 North East Harrier League with the final fixture of the season at Prudhoe - looking forward to seeing the Pink Ladies and Cake Makers out in force!

Have a great week everyone and Come On Wallsend!

And PS a belated welcome to Harrier life for the lovely Isabel Caterina Plummer who joins little Noely J and Phoebe Burna in the Green and Gold junior ranks. What a year so far!

Like Phil Collins during Live Aid, Wallsend Harriers performed on both sides of the Atlantic today and both of our Easy Lovers did us very proud indeed.

First up was Hatmeister Paul Borsberry who smashed the Liverpool Half Marathon in a PB of 1:29.10 - Can you Feel That in the Air Tonight King Kev? - and what's to come from Bushy this year?

Next up was Website Wally (showing her 'True Colours' in the pic) who was on the other side of the Atlantic in the slightly more scenic New York Half Marathon - finishing in 1:43.22 on the back of a most interrupted training schedule - Against All Odds you could say.

All in all, Another Day in Paradise for the Green and Gold...

Lee Morgan reports from yesterday's VAANEE Cross Country Championships where some bacon was well and truly brought home...

Five hardy Wallsend Veterans made the trip to Jarrow to compete at yesterday's VAANEE Cross Country Championships. There were some great performances as two of our atheletes went home with Championship silver medals.

Starting with the female category....huge congratulations to  the lovely Danielle Hodgkinson who  represented the North East in the Inter Counties Cross Country Championship at Cofton Park, Birmingham on Saturday. Danielle came 38th in the race overall and with the rest of her team mates (Rosie Smith, Jane Hodgson, Alex Snook and Claire Simpson) finished 7th team place overall. Well done ladies!

Also in action on Saturday was brilliant Brian Hetherington taking part in the Newcastle Park Run. Despite a noticeable headwind Brian finished in a PB of 17.00 and took the age grading title in the VM44-99 with a credible 84.71%. There is no stopping you Brian!

And finally...oh yes...he has done it again! Today Yared won the Inverness half Marathon in very windy and very cold conditions. Running sub 5 minute miles Yared was victorious in a time of 65.00!
Well done Hagos!
